​James was born and raised in Haleʻiwa. James served as the Board President of Mālama Loko Ea Foundation until 2021. James first volunteered at Loko Ea in May 2008 and alongside his good friend, Benson Lee, co-founded Mālama Loko Ea Foundation in 2009. James has spent 20+ years in environmental restoration and is currently a Superintendent with Na Aliʻi Consulting & Sales. He holds a Project Management Professional credential and maintains a General Engineering Contractors license.

James resides in Waialua with his wife, Rowena, and their three children. He is a member of the North Shore Food Summit planning committee.
